About NSM

The Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM) is a professional, scientific and non-governmental organization founded in 1972 and registered in Nigeria under the Land perpetual Act cap 98.

The society engenders the efficient practice and application of the knowledge of Microbiology in the area of health, agriculture, petroleum, pharmaceutical, chemicals/food processing industries, among others. Its operation is extended into water treatment and environmental protection processes. Indeed, the society maintains unity, mutual respect and understanding among its members as well as members of other professional bodies.

Ten "INSPIRE potentials: Master Internship Awards" in first-principles simulations are available to outstanding women researchers for 6 month stays in Swiss research groups belonging to the MARVEL NCCR ( http://nccr-marvel.ch/en/references/equal-opportunities/marvel-laboratories ).

In a field of science where women are still strongly underrepresented, the "INSPIRE potentials - Master Internship Awards" aim to support excellent female students in their Master thesis projects, while giving them access to outstanding research facilities and enviroments.

There are two deadlines for submission: 15 May and 15 October 2016; all information can be found at: http://nccr-marvel.ch/en/references/equal-opportunities/inspire-potentials

Note that the INSPIRE Potentials Master Internship awards are initiated in close collaboration with the NCCR QSIT — Quantum Science and Technology ( http://www.nccr-qsit.ethz.ch/education/advancementofwomen/inspire ), that offers another set of fellowships in their field.

Dear NSM Member,

This is to inform you that at its first quarter 2016 meeting held at Joseph-Ayo Babalola University, Osun State; the National Executive Council of NSM approved a flat rate of six thousand naira only (N6, 000.00) per year, for all previous annual dues debts. This was sequel to the fact, that the society currently needs huge financial resources to tackle its numerous programs including professionalization and yet, many members are not up-to-date with their annual dues payment. More so, the annual dues payable over the years were varied.

Consequently, members are encouraged to kindly pay their current and previous annual dues to the following account;

Bank: Union Bank Nig Plc

Account Name: Nigerian Society for Microbiology

Account Number: 0007380241

The payment tellers should be forwarded to the Financial Secretary (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Treasurer (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and the secretariat (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Please note that, the final collation of the current NSM Membership list will be done at the 39th NSM national conference at UNN. Subsequently, the full list of all financially up-to-date NSM members will be posted to the society's website (www.nsm.ng) accordingly. You're therefore requested to come to the conference with all your previous annual dues payment receipts/tellers.

Together we shall take the society to the next level.

Best wishes,

Amadi, E.S      PhD

National Secretary
