Dear Esteemed members I wish to communicate the decisions of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Society of Microbiology (NSM) at the last NEC meeting held at University of Port Harcourt. The following decisions were made. 1. NSM database must be updated to the current number of actively registered members. This would be done via NSM website at https://nsm.ng/ . All members whose registration has lapsed for more than two years would be granted a waiver on the condition of renewal for the current year. Deadline for renewal of lapse membership is December 31st 2021. 2. In preparation for our professionalization, only the updated membership database to be presented at the National Assembly public hearing (to be determined soon) would be regarded as members of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology. Every other new entry may have to go through rigorous process of becoming a certified members of the society. 3. That from October 2021, new regular membership fees for the NSM will now be N20, 000. Renewal of membership N10000 will now lapse at every September of each year. September being our conference month and beginning of each society year. 4. Our certificate for membership will now be issued at every renewal with expiry dates and reminders will now be sent to members to pay their annual dues via members’ active emails in our database.
